Bro Coffee Roastery Uganda Kanyenye Speciality – arabica from the shores of Lake Victoria

Uganda is one of Africa's leading coffee producers, although most of its harvest is robusta. That makes us all the happier to offer arabica from the area around Kanyenye in the Buikwe district, between Kampala and Jinja, on the northern shore of Lake Victoria. The coffee trees grow at 1200 masl in a warm, rainy climate, and harvesting is done by hand. The farms grow SL28, a variety selected in the 1930s at Scott Agricultural Laboratories in Kenya and still regarded as one of the finest in East Africa.

The beans were washed: after the pulp was removed, they fermented for several hours and were then dried in the sun. We chose a medium light (3/5) roast for them to bring out the sweetness of fig, highlight the walnut and give the cocoa a pleasant depth. The result is a dessert-like coffee in which fruit and cocoa tones stay in harmony.

Uganda Kanyenye is versatile: an espresso machine turns it into a cocoa-rich shot, a moka pot gives a full, nutty brew, while drip and Chemex reveal its fruitier side with a clear fig note.

Quality confirmed by the SCA score

What is the SCA score? The Specialty Coffee Association is a global authority in the coffee world, setting uncompromising standards. Qualified experts evaluate the beans on a strict 100-point scale during professional tasting sessions. The finest nuances of the brew are analysed: from aroma, through acidity, all the way to sweetness and balance. Exceeding the 80-point threshold is the ultimate proof that the beans are completely free from defects and belong to the absolute global top tier.

At Bro Coffee Roastery, we do not compromise. Every bean that goes into our roaster undergoes rigorous selection. The Uganda Kanyenye Speciality coffee has achieved an excellent score of 83 points on the SCA scale, which proudly classifies it within the elite group of speciality quality. For you, this means a guarantee of objectively measured perfection, a flawlessly clean taste and a unique sensory profile that meets strict, artisanal standards.

Craft roasting at BroRoastery.com

We roast our coffee to a medium-light level (3 on a 5-point scale) to highlight natural sweetness and creamy body without losing balance and pleasant nuances. This roast works equally well for espresso and alternative brewing methods.

All our coffees are roasted fresh, in small batches, to reach you in optimal condition. The best flavour qualities develop after a minimum of 7 days from the roast date – following a natural degassing process that stabilises the profile and allows the aroma and balance to fully shine.

The high quality of our beans and the artisanal approach to the roasting process is no coincidence. The commitment to maintaining the highest global standards is confirmed by the fact that our brand's producer is a proud member of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA). By choosing Bro Coffee Roastery, you are opting for a product created by true experts and passionate enthusiasts.

Uganda Kanyenye shows that Africa is not only about bright, citrusy coffees. Fig, walnut and cocoa – sweet, calm and very easy to enjoy. We brew it most often in a moka pot.
